The 18th annual Skechers Pier to Pier Friendship Walk returns to the Manhattan Beach Pier on Sunday, Oct. 18.
The roughly 3.5-mile route runs south along the Strand to the Hermosa Beach Pier and back. Pre-registration costs $30 per walker and is open now at skechersfriendshipwalk.com. Day-of registration is $35. Every registered walker receives a free Skechers Walk T-shirt and swag bag while supplies last, according to the event's organizers. Children can also be registered to receive a shirt and bag.
Check-in begins at 8 a.m. at the Manhattan Beach Pier. Live entertainment and opening remarks start at 8:30 a.m., and the walk begins at 9:30 a.m.
Proceeds benefit the Redondo Beach-based Friendship Foundation, a nonprofit that pairs children and young adults with disabilities with peer volunteers through sports, art, music and other programs. Funds also support six South Bay educational foundations in Redondo Beach, Hermosa Beach, Manhattan Beach, Torrance, El Segundo and Palos Verdes, along with the Skechers Foundation's national college scholarship program, which has awarded more than $2.3 million in scholarships to date.
Founded in 2009 by the Greenberg family, the walk has raised more than $31 million to date, according to a Skechers press release issued after the 17th annual event in October 2025. That year's walk alone brought in more than $3.2 million.
In the Oct. 21, 2025, press release, walk co-founder Michael Greenberg said the event "has become a truly one-of-a-kind event" that celebrates "what matters most: the future of our children."
The Friendship Foundation, established in 2007, now runs more than 60 monthly programs and over 80 school clubs across the South Bay, serving over 5,000 participants and volunteers each year. Its Friendship Club program operates in schools across El Segundo, Hawthorne, Hermosa Beach, Manhattan Beach and Redondo Beach school districts.
Free shuttles run continuously from 6:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on walk day from two locations: the Northrop Grumman Parking Lot R2 at One Space Park Drive in Redondo Beach and Kinecta Federal Credit Union at 1440 Rosecrans Ave. in Manhattan Beach. Both drop off near the pier.
Early check-in is available Friday, Oct. 16, and Saturday, Oct. 17, at Skechers retail stores in Manhattan Beach and Torrance, Big 5 Sporting Goods in Torrance and Promenade on the Peninsula in Palos Verdes.
The event also features a Kid Zone, hydration stations and live entertainment. Leashed dogs are welcome.
