The Manhattan Beach 10K will hit a half-century milestone on Oct. 9, 2027, with its 50th running through the streets of Manhattan Beach.
The race has sold out four straight years.
The volunteer-run nonprofit announced the date in an Oct. 27 blog post following the 49th annual race earlier in October. The race committee also disclosed a $5,000 donation to Leadership Manhattan Beach's Class of 2026 for its "Iron Rails to Green Trails" project, which adds historical signage to the Greenbelt on Veterans Parkway.
The project celebrates the Greenbelt's origins as a former Santa Fe rail line. The MB News reported in May that Leadership Manhattan Beach unveiled the effort as a three-station historical signage project featuring archival photos and short histories of the rail corridor. A city council staff report described a single Corten steel sign planned for the Greenbelt across from the Joslyn Community Center, with Leadership Manhattan Beach covering fabrication costs and city Public Works handling installation.
Scott Anderson, the class member who conceived the project, called the Greenbelt a "jewel that we need to celebrate," according to the MB News. The class partnered with the Manhattan Beach Historical Society to source images and stories documenting the corridor's evolution from railroad right-of-way to open space.
The MB10K has donated more than $825,000 to local causes since its first race in 1978, according to the race's website. That total includes more than $235,000 in scholarships and over $545,000 to Manhattan Beach schools. Entry fees over the years have helped fund the Mira Costa High School track, the Strand mile markers and the synthetic turf at the Marine Avenue soccer field, among other projects.
The race is organized by the Manhattan Beach 10K Race Committee, a group of about 20 unpaid volunteers, according to the race's FAQ page. The Oct. 27 post urged runners to mark the 2027 date early, noting the race's streak of sellouts.
Runners who still need to pick up a 2026 medal or finisher tee can do so at Village Runner in Manhattan Beach through Oct. 31. The store is open daily from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
