A non-verbal boy between 4 and 5 years old was found alone at Andrews Parkette on Rockefeller Lane in Redondo Beach on Thursday, July 30, prompting a public alert that led police to the child's parents within minutes.
The Redondo Beach Police Department issued the alert shortly after 10 a.m., according to Patch. The child was described as a Black male wearing a diaper and a green pajama-style shirt.
The department also posted a public assistance request on its official X account seeking help identifying the boy's family. A short time later, RBPD confirmed in a follow-up post that the parents had been located.
The resolution was quick.
Police did not release additional details about how the child came to be alone at the park or whether any further action would follow.
How the alert reached residents
Redondo Beach is one of 13 South Bay cities that use Alert South Bay, a regional emergency notification platform powered by Everbridge that replaced the previous NIXLE system. The platform delivers urgent messages via text, email, phone, and landline, giving RBPD and the city's fire and emergency management teams the ability to push critical information directly to registered residents.
