Teams will compete in a round-robin pickleball tournament Saturday, Sept. 12, at the Manhattan Country Club to raise money for Manhattan Beach public schools.

The Manhattan Wine Auction Pickleball Tournament, organized by the Manhattan Beach Education Foundation (MBEF), runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 1330 Parkview Ave. Registration costs $300 per team. Two divisions are available: amateur and competitive.

Winners receive prizes, including Reserve Room tickets to the 2027 Manhattan Wine Auction, according to the event listing on MB News.

All proceeds benefit MBEF's Endowment Fund, a permanent investment fund whose principal is never spent. A portion of its annual earnings supports programs in Manhattan Beach Unified School District (MBUSD) schools.

The tournament is part of the broader Manhattan Wine Auction fundraising series. The 32nd Annual Manhattan Wine Auction drew more than 2,400 guests to the Manhattan Country Club on June 6 and raised a record $2 million, up from $1.4 million in 2025.

"Each year, thousands of volunteers, local businesses, educators, parents, sponsors, donors, and community members come together with a single shared purpose – investing in our students," MBEF Executive Director Hilary Mahan said in a July 8 interview with MB Weekly, reflecting on the auction's record haul.

That money flows directly into classrooms. MBEF announced its largest-ever grant for the 2026-27 school year: more than $8 million for educator positions and programs. Over half is dedicated to class size reduction in grades 4 through 12. The grant also funds music, physical education, libraries, science labs, counseling and a college and career center.

The MBUSD board voted 5-0 on July 15 to accept the supplemental grants.
