Hawthorne High welcomes back its 1973 football team Friday, Aug. 28, as the 1-0 Cougars host Manuel Dominguez at Halcap Field.

The game is Hawthorne's second home contest of the 2026 season. Head coach Jazmin Gamble's squad beat Gardena on Aug. 21 and enters the matchup against Dominguez, which travels from Compton.

Back to the '70s

The Cougar Den student section is theming the night "Back to the '70s," and the school is encouraging fans to show up in decade-appropriate attire. The highlight: alumni from the Hawthorne Football Class of 1973 will be on the sidelines at Halcap to cheer on the current roster.

The school's announcement urged fans to wear '70s outfits, bring school pride and make the night count. The reunion connects players who suited up in scarlet and gold more than five decades ago with the 2026 Cougars.

What to know before you go

Tickets are mobile-only. Cash is not accepted at the gate. The school asks fans to review spectator guidelines before arriving, and no re-entry is permitted once you leave the stadium.

For the Aug. 21 opener, general admission was $13.60, student tickets without an ASB sticker were $7, and children ages 7–12 were $5. The school has not separately published pricing for the Dominguez game.

Kickoff time has not been confirmed in the Week 2 announcement. The Aug. 21 game against Gardena started at 7 p.m.
