Redondo Union High School students could gain access to five dual enrollment courses through El Camino College for the 2026-27 school year, one of several items the Redondo Beach Unified School District board will consider when it meets Tuesday, July 14, at the district board room, 1401 Inglewood Avenue.

Closed session begins at 4:30 p.m. Open session follows at 5:30 p.m.

What's on the agenda

The consent calendar includes a fourth amendment to the district's College and Career Access Pathways agreement with El Camino Community College District. If approved, Redondo Union students would be able to take Academic Reading and Writing, Critical Thinking and Writing, Single Variable Calculus, Multi-Variable Calculus, and Beauty of Computer Science Principles for college credit at a cost of $5,000 to the district.

The board will also vote on more than $2.3 million in food service contracts for the 2026-27 school year, including $1 million with Gold Star Foods for frozen and processed foods, $400,000 with Gold Star Foods for snacks and staples, $300,000 with Valley Produce Company, $250,000 with Driftwood Dairy, $200,000 with Domino's Pizza, $140,000 with Imperial Dade for paper products, $42,000 with Giuliano's Bakery, and a $39,000 food safety contract with Food Safety Systems.

Other consent items include accepting the Adams Middle School fencing project as complete, releasing $9,485.15 in retention to Gold Coast Fence. That project was funded by the Measure S bond, which voters approved in November 2024. The board will also approve the 2026-27 Expanded Learning Opportunities Program plan and authorize year-end appropriation transfers for the current fiscal year.

Superintendent Dr. Nicole Wesley will deliver a report during open session, and the board will hear communications from the Redondo Beach Teachers Association, the California School Employees Association, the American Federation of Teachers, the Redondo Beach Council PTA, and the Redondo Beach Educational Foundation.

Behind closed doors

Seven closed-session items are listed. The board will discuss labor negotiations with RBTA, CSEA, AFT, and non-represented employees. District negotiators are Dr. Wesley, Deputy Superintendent Dr. Nick Stephany, and Rafael Plascencia.

The board will also evaluate the superintendent's performance, consider hiring two elementary school assistant principals, and discuss real property negotiations for a cell tower site at 701 Diamond Street and for the Seasons at Redondo Beach project at 109 S. Francisca Avenue.

Budget context

The meeting is the board's first regular session since adopting the 2026-27 fiscal year budget on Tuesday, June 16. That budget included $15.3 million in commitments addressing declining enrollment, cash flow, fleet replacement, instructional programs, and competitive compensation for all employee groups, according to the board's adopted budget motion.
