Redondo Union High School (RUHS) students will have five new ways to earn free college credit during the school day starting this fall, after the Redondo Beach Unified School District board approved an expanded partnership with El Camino Community College District on Tuesday, July 14.
The board also approved $2.37 million in food service contracts covering every RBUSD campus for the 2026-2027 school year.
College credit on campus
The CCAP Fourth Amendment adds five dual enrollment courses to the existing agreement between RBUSD and El Camino College. RUHS teachers will teach the courses during regular class periods, and students pay nothing for tuition or textbooks.
The new lineup: Academic Reading and Writing (ENGL C1000), Critical Thinking and Writing (ENGL C1001), Single Variable Calculus (Math 191), Multi-Variable Calculus (Math 220), and Beauty of Computer Science Principles (CSCI 7). The cost to the district is capped at $5,000 from the Textbook Replacement/Adoption Fund.
The partnership has grown steadily. In September 2025, the board renewed CCAP coverage for computer science and fire technology courses taught in part by Redondo Beach Fire Department Division Chief Isaac Yang. In May 2026, the board added four asynchronous summer courses for incoming ninth- through 11th-graders, including Introduction to Public Speaking and History of Rock Music.
The board agenda described the expansion as "in alignment with the district's strategic plan" to give students postsecondary options while still in high school.
Feeding the district
Eight contracts totaling $2.371 million, all running July 1, 2026, through June 30, 2027, will supply food and supplies across RBUSD schools:
- Gold Star Foods (frozen/processed commodity foods): $1,000,000
- Gold Star Foods (snacks and staples): $400,000
- Valley Produce Company (fresh produce): $300,000
- Driftwood Dairy (dairy products): $250,000
- Domino's Pizza (fresh pizza): $200,000
- Imperial Dade (paper products): $140,000
- Giuliano's Bakery (fresh bread): $42,000
- Food Safety Systems (sanitation/cleaning): $39,000
All vendors except Food Safety Systems were selected through the South Bay Purchasing Cooperative's competitive bid process, according to the board agenda. Domino's Pizza has supplied K-12 compliant pizza to the district for more than eight years.
Other board actions
The board also accepted the Adams Middle School fencing project as complete, releasing $9,485.15 in retained Measure S bond funds to Gold Coast Fence. It approved the Expanded Learning Opportunities Program plan for 2026-2027 and received a Williams Quarterly Report showing zero uniform complaints between April 1 and June 30, 2026.
The next RBUSD board meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, August 11, at 5:30 p.m. at the RBUSD Board Room, 1401 Inglewood Avenue, Redondo Beach.
