The Hermosa Beach Pier will glow pink on the evening of Oct. 1, opening a month of breast cancer fundraising events across the South Bay.
The Butterfly Strong Foundation, a Hermosa Beach-based nonprofit, announced four events running through Oct. 24 in Hermosa Beach, Manhattan Beach, Redondo Beach and West Hollywood. The series raises money for early detection, patient support and breast cancer research, the Daily Breeze reported.
Dana Richards, founder of the Butterfly Strong Foundation and a 15-year breast cancer survivor, said the events reflect the organization's butterfly-effect philosophy.
"People often see a butterfly as delicate … (but) I see resilience," Richards said in a press release announcing the series.
The foundation is 100 percent volunteer-run, according to Richards' LinkedIn profile. In 2025, the organization reported giving back more than $41,000 toward patient support and research, including sponsoring more than 100 WeCare Packages for newly diagnosed patients and contributing more than $11,000 to the Dr. Susan Love Fund at Tower Cancer Research Foundation.
All four events require RSVPs.
