An electrical worker fell from a power pole in Hermosa Beach on Wednesday, Sept. 30, and died at the scene, police said.
Officers and paramedics responded at about 9:25 p.m. to a medical emergency in the 200 block of Bayview Drive, near 2nd Street, according to Sgt. Keaton Dadigan of the Hermosa Beach Police Department. They found the worker unconscious on the ground below the pole.
"Despite life-saving efforts, paramedics … pronounced the worker deceased at the scene," Dadigan said, according to the Daily Breeze.
The worker was a contractor with City Light & Power, a firm working for Southern California Edison (SCE), according to the utility. Neighbors told ABC7 that power was out while crews were upgrading utility poles in the area.
The exact cause of death remained unclear as of Thursday, Oct. 1. Authorities had not determined whether the worker was electrocuted, suffered a separate medical emergency or died from the fall. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's Office is investigating.
The worker's name has not been released.
