Center Street School will have a new principal when El Segundo students return this fall.

The El Segundo Unified School District Board of Education convened Monday, July 27, for its first regular meeting of the 2026-27 school year. The agenda included a formal introduction of the incoming Center Street School principal, presented by Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources Lisa Veal, who has introduced all new district hires at board meetings throughout the past year.

The incoming principal's name does not appear in the published agenda. Meeting minutes had not been posted as of July 28. The outgoing principal, Rose Ahrens, was still referenced in Superintendent Johnson's report at the board's Tuesday, June 23 meeting, indicating a leadership change over the summer.

First actions of the new school year

Also on the consent agenda: Certificated Personnel Services Report No. 02, the first such report of the 2026-27 cycle. The district's numbering resets each academic year. The prior school year's final report was No. 20, approved June 23.

Dr. Melissa Gooden, the district's new Chief Business Official whose contract was unanimously approved at the June 23 meeting, presented Resolution No. 01/2026-27. The resolution certifies official signatures, authorizing district staff to sign legal and financial documents on behalf of the board for the new fiscal year. It is a standard annual action required at the start of each school year.

The five-member board, led by President Tracey I. Miller-Zarneke, has approved consent items unanimously at every meeting since at least May 2026. Actual vote counts from July 27 have not been confirmed.
