Redondo Union's flag football team will travel to Long Beach Poly on Saturday, Oct. 24, for a 4 p.m. CIF-SS Division 1 second-round playoff game.

The No. 2-seeded Sea Hawks (16-5) advanced with a 19-14 first-round win over San Marcos on Tuesday, Oct. 20, in Redondo Beach. Quarterback Blair Nolen threw two touchdown passes, and Kyndall Aguirre added a 26-yard rushing touchdown as Redondo built a 13-0 halftime lead, according to the Daily Breeze.

San Marcos cut the deficit to 19-14 late, but a failed onside kick attempt sealed the result, Noozhawk reported.

The Jackrabbits (11-8) present a different challenge. Long Beach Poly rallied from a 20-13 fourth-quarter deficit to beat Mission Viejo 25-20 on the road in round one, according to the562.org. Sophia Hernandez scored to pull Poly within a point. Then the Jackrabbits got the ball back with 2:20 remaining and drove the length of the field, with running back Amai'a Johnson punching in the go-ahead touchdown. Poly clinched the win with a defensive stop on Mission Viejo's final throw to the end zone as time expired.

Poly won the Moore League title this season with a perfect 8-0 league record, according to the562.org's bracket preview. The Jackrabbits started the year 0-6 against a tough non-league schedule before winning their final seven regular-season games.

Saturday's matchup is a step forward for Redondo. Last season, the Sea Hawks fell to eventual Division 1 runner-up Orange Lutheran in the opening round, according to the Daily Breeze.

In Daily Breeze coverage published Oct. 17, Sea Hawks coach Jake Jimenez said "any team in division 1 is no joke and can't be taken lightly."

Redondo and Palos Verdes shared the Bay League title this fall after PV edged the Sea Hawks 27-26 in the Oct. 13 regular-season finale. PV (19-3) also plays a Division 1 second-round game Saturday, traveling to Tesoro (20-8) at 1:30 p.m., according to the Daily Breeze schedule.

Winners of Saturday's games advance to the Division 1 quarterfinals.
