Jeffrey Prang, the incumbent Los Angeles County assessor, is running for a fourth term in the Nov. 3 general election. The nonpartisan race covers all of Los Angeles County, including the South Bay.
The assessor's office determines the assessed value of more than 2.6 million properties countywide, according to the LGBTQ+ Victory Fund. Those valuations set the property tax bills for South Bay homeowners and fund local schools, cities and essential public services.

Government reform and technology

He said the investment has been paying dividends. Recent successes include new software that tracks down previously unassessed aircraft and a system that took fewer than 90 days to reassess thousands of homes destroyed in last year's fires, delivering tax relief to victims, the Times reported.
Accountability and office priorities
In a candidate questionnaire response published by BallotReady, Prang said he sought election with three goals: to serve the public with the highest standards of accountability, accuracy and integrity; to value all property accurately and fairly; and to modernize the office to achieve efficiency and guarantee the integrity of valuation systems.
